The role

This position is ideal for individuals seeking to advance their finance careers while gaining valuable experience within a large organisation. The role offers exposure to areas such as Budget Monitoring, Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable/Receivable, VAT, Finance Systems, and Capital Projects, equipping you with essential knowledge and tools for future progression into fields such as Finance Performance, Corporate Finance, and Governance.
What you’ll do
- Be responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC).
- Supporting VAT reporting, Bank reconciliation, and Funding allocation processes and reconciliations.
- Maintenance of Fixed Asset Register and other balance sheet reconciliations.
- Processing of transactions and journal entries into accounting software.
- Supporting internal reviews on finance processes and providing recommendations for improvements, helping to drive efficiencies.
- Supporting the finance systems maintenance and working on system development projects.
- Supporting the internal control processes and providing financial information to both external and internal auditors.
- Monthly financial reporting including monitoring against budget.
- Responsible for annual budget setting and annual close down.
- Support the Technical team in preparation of year end accounts for the OPCC.
- Support the Finance Lead – Partnerships Projects & Capital Programme with one-off projects.
What you’ll bring
- You must be either have or be working towards obtaining your AAT level 4, accounting qualification or equivalent and are able to demonstrate experience of working in a busy finance function.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- An ability to work using your own initiative in an innovative and proactive manner, applying problem solving skills where required.
- Strong attention to detail and high personal and professional standards.
- Experience of operating to strict deadlines.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Office, in particular, Excel.

Terms of appointment
The permanent role is subject to a six-month probationary period.
