Job Overview
The Night Shift Lead oversees and coordinates the activities of the night team to ensure the safety, well-being, and quality of life for individuals in a supported living environment. This role involves leadership, supervision, and hands-on support for residents, ensuring all overnight tasks are completed efficiently while adhering to organisational policies and care standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. **Leadership & Supervision**
- Oversee the night staff team, ensuring tasks are completed effectively.
- Act as the primary point of contact for night staff and escalate issues to management as needed.
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and care standards.
2. **Resident Support**
- Provide hands-on assistance to residents with personal care, mobility, or other support needs.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents, including health or behavioural crises.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of all residents during the night.
3. **Administrative Duties**
- Complete and review nightly logs, reports, and handovers.
- Monitor adherence to care plans and document any changes or concerns.
- Conduct regular checks on residents and the premises to ensure security and well-being.
- Complete Senior staff tasks such as supervisions and appraisals, monitor training progress, and complete incident forms and accident forms as required (must be able to use Word/Excel/OneDrive Etc.)
4. **Team Development**
- Train and mentor night staff, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Provide feedback to staff on performance and address any immediate concerns.
5. **Health & Safety**
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Ensure appropriate infection control measures are followed.
- Conduct nightly fire and safety checks as required.
- Complete housekeeping duties that are required.
This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills, alongside a background in care or supported living.
Experience Requirements for a Shift Lead at Meadow Court
1. **Professional Experience**
- **Minimum of 1-3 years** in a care or supported living environment, providing direct support to individuals with diverse needs (e.g., elderly, individuals with disabilities, mental health challenges).
- Prior experience as a senior care worker, key worker, or similar supervisory role is preferred.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality, person-centered care.
2. **Leadership Experience**
- Experience leading a team or acting as a point of contact during shifts.
- Familiarity with supervising and mentoring staff, delegating tasks, and resolving conflicts.
3. **Relevant Skills and Knowledge**
- Understanding of care plans, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance in a care setting (e.g., safeguarding, CQC standards in the UK).
- Experience responding to emergencies and making decisions under pressure.
- Strong organisational and communication skills to manage handovers, documentation, and team coordination.
4. **Training and Certifications**
- Basic training in first aid, manual handling, and safeguarding - full training provided.
- **Preferred**: Advanced certifications such as NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care, Mental Health Awareness, or Medication Administration.
