About this opportunity

Are you an experienced fire safety professional who can bring your knowledge and expertise to help us support, influence and embed an excellent fire safety culture?

Reporting to one of the Health and Safety Business Partner’s and working within our friendly and supportive team, you will work in an advisory role supporting with fire safety advice and guidance, as well as conducting and supporting in fire safety risk assessment reviews across our council estate. Your role will help these areas to develop and deliver compliant management practices. Reducing and controlling fire safety risks to our employees, customers and communities, your role will help to ensure that the Council complies with its statutory duties as an employer under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Health and Safety at Work Act and responsibilities under other relevant acts/ regulations.

The Council provide many services to our communities and work in partnership with a wide range of external organisations. We the employer in our maintained schools and support them by providing the advice and guidance via our health and safety team. In this role you will be challenging, monitoring and influencing fire safety management arrangements, and ensuring fire safety remains a top priority for Westmorland and Furness Council.

As a Fire Safety Advisor, you will provide support across all council service areas. You will be involved in developing corporate fire safety procedures and supporting in service level procedures, conducting fire safety risk assessments, and supporting services with fire safety related advice and guidance. You will have an excellent knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 as well as the Health and Safety at Work Act and other relevant legislation. Who we are looking for…

The right person for this role will be an experienced, driven and proactive fire safety practitioner. You will have significant experience of providing fire safety advice and guidance, as well as in assessing fire safety risks in diverse properties and services. You will work well both as an individual and as enjoy working as part of a team. You will already hold an active Graduate grade membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or have a qualification meeting the academic requirement for Graduate Member grade such as IFE Level 3 Diploma / former Graduate examination; but applications are welcomed from those who may already be working towards this but have appropriate knowledge and experience.
