Summary

Undertake a range of nursing assessments and provide appropriate care and treatment in conjunction with GPs according to practice policies and protocols Strive to improve standards of care and be involved in identifying practice population needs Knowledge of the GMS contract, e.g. The Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) LES AND DES element of the role Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations ensuring these are administered under patient group directions Undertake health promotion programmes, facilitating change through assessment and advice on lifestyle, diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise Provide family planning care eg; contraceptive pill checks In line with practice policies, provide clinical management and monitoring of the following long-term conditions: Diabetes COPD Hypertension CHD Asthma Learning Disabilities Perform cervical cytology smear tests Perform general nursing duties including ear irrigation, venepuncture, wound care and management and suture removal in line with current evidence based guidelines Perform ECGs Offer comprehensive travel advice in line with NaTHNaC including; vaccinations, medications, contraception etc. Be able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines Perform CPR according to current UK guidelines Assist in the provision of minor surgery Maintain and document informed consent (either verbal or written) Ensure the practice infection control guidelines and systems are in line with current best practice Maintain confidentiality of information at all times Identify personal development and training needs and participate in continuing education to maintain the required level of professional knowledge and skills Enjoy working as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team Communicate effectively with other team members Communicate effectively with patients and carers Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly Maintain a caring environment through the support of colleagues Maintain confidentiality.
