Summary
The paediatric critical care services at Leicester are located at Leicester Royal Infirmary. This includes a 12 bedded cardiac paediatric intensive care unit (CPICU), 7 bedded childrens intensive care unit (CICU) and 12 bedded HDU/ Paediatric respiratory long term ward (ward 12) which is located next to the childrens intensive care unit. Clinical Responsibilities: Senior role in General PICU, Cardiac PICU, and Comet transport, with supported on-call duties. Participate in Cardiac MDT meetingsand PICU grand rounds. Lead ward roundsduring fellow weeks, working with the MDT. Collaborate with the outreach teamand oversee patient flow. ECMO Focus: Work closely with the ECMO team, with protected time to attend paediatric and adult ECMO ward rounds. Access ECMO wet-lab simulationsand complete bedside preceptorship. Teach on the 4-day ECMO course, held twice a year. Gain experience in ECMO transport, including intra- and inter-hospital transfers. Involved in ECMO referral triagingand equipment familiarisation. Research & Development: Contribute to audit, QI and research projects. Funding to attend and present at the ELSO conference.
