Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented postdoctoral researcher to join the Oxford Machine to work on a research project in the area of robust, large-scale agent-based modelling. The post is tenable immediately, and will be available until the end of the grant (30 September 2026). The postholder will be supervised by the PI Prof Michael Wooldridge, along with co-Investigators Prof Ani Calinescu and Prof Doyne Farmer. The postholder will work in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford, based in the Wolfson Building, Parks Road, Oxford.

The project is intended to substantially advance the theory and practice of agent-based modelling. The project will involve some theory, programming, and systematic experimentation – the precise focus will depend on the expertise and interest of successful candidates. In more detail, the successful candidates will work on one or more of the areas of (1) modelling languages for agent-based models (with particular interest in probalistic programming), (2) populating agent-based models with realistic agent behaviours (e.g. using machine learning techniques), (3) calibrating large-scale agent-based models and (4) validation and verification of agent-based models (e.g. using techniques from game theoretic model checking/rational synthesis)

Candidates will be expected to have a PhD in a related area and should indicate their special area(s) of interest from the four topics above in a cover letter. The primary selection criteria will be relevant research experience and publication track record.
