We have an opportunity for an Apprentice HGV Mechanic to join our service and maintenance team in Corpach, Fort William.
During the three year programme, the successful applicant will attend GTG Training’s purpose-built motor vehicle workshop in Glasgow on weekly block release every 2 months in addition to working full time at our workshop facilities. Trainees will be working towards gaining an SVQ Level 3 Apprenticeship in Heavy Goods Maintenance.
Applicants must be committed, enthusiastic and hard working. They must have the ability to work as part of a team. Entry requirements for the training course with GTG are ideally a minimum Nat 4 or 5 in Maths, English plus a science or technical subject. However, consideration will still be given to applicants who do not hold these qualifications.
A driving licence will be required for this role, therefore applicants should have their car licence, be working towards achieving this or be prepared to do so when of age.
Accommodation (including breakfast and evening meal) and travel is provided as part of the training programme whilst in Glasgow attending GTG.
During the apprenticeship there will be a number of units completed, such as:
• Contributing to housekeeping
• Reducing risks to health & safety
• Maintaining working relationships
• Using tools and equipment in motor vehicle engineering
• Facilitating individuals’ learning and development
• Inspecting commercial vehicles
• Diagnosing and rectifying commercial vehicle engine and component faults
• Diagnosing and rectifying motor vehicle electrical unit and component faults
Throughout the training apprentices are supported internally by our qualified HGV Mechanics, putting their new skills and knowledge to good use on our HGV units, trailers and plant & machinery. In addition to this there will be regular assessments with a GTG assessor through practical observations in the workplace along with online tests and a requirement to submit job card evidence.
Following the formal apprenticeship training, full time employment will continue as a qualified HGV Mechanic.
