Summary

Cyber Security at the Home Office is at the forefront of protecting one of the UK’s largest government departments and its critical digital infrastructure. We are seeking a Senior SecOps Data Engineer to join our team and play a key role in designing and delivering secure, scalable data solutions that support our cyber defence capabilities.

As a Senior Security Ops Data Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of complex data flows that connect operational systems with analytics and business intelligence platforms. Your work will ensure that data is accessible, reliable, and secure across the organisation.

Collaborating closely with the Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC), and the wider Home Office Cyber Security (HOCS) team, your work will be shaped by their proactive research and insights, as well as by retrospective analysis of known risks, incidents, and intelligence from commercial, cross-government, and international sources.

The successful candidate will either be located Soapworks - Manchester, Vulcan House - Sheffield, regional office. Under Home Office hybrid working practices there is an expectation that you will attend the office for a minimum of 60% of your working hours. Given the nature and responsibilities of this role, this is not suitable for part-time arrangements.

Please note that this role requires Security Clearance, which would normally need 5 years’ UK residency in the past 5 years. Candidates must also hold or be prepared to undergo NPPV3 clearance.

As a Senior Security Ops Engineer, you’ll bring a passion for data and a sharp eye for detail to help drive innovation and resilience across our security landscape. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how we detect, respond to, and learn from cyber threats.

In this role, your main day-to-day responsibilities will be:

  • Investigating problems and exploring potential solutions to uncover root causes of issues or discrepancies, contributing to the development of innovative and effective resolutions.
  • Analysing and reporting on test activities and outcomes, while supporting team members and stakeholders with data analysis and interpretation.
  • Designing and implementing a data streaming service, including the creation of new data models and the development of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
  • Ensuring the successful delivery of completed data loads for teams such as CSOC Engineering, Cyber Detection & Response, Threat Operations, and Service Management, including troubleshooting as needed.
  • Designing, building, and testing complex or large-scale data products and solutions, managing the full development, testing, and deployment lifecycle.
  • Applying data modelling principles and creating relevant, diverse data models across multiple subject areas, while offering guidance on their effective use.
