The Opportunity
We’re seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the High Voltage and Low Voltage electrical engineering aspects of a major infrastructure design project. This role includes end-to-end responsibility for planning, oversight, documentation, stakeholder engagement, and the technical assurance of electrical systems within a regulated and high-risk environment.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

- Lead and coordinate HV/LV electrical design delivery across all stages of the project lifecycle
- Manage engineering input from internal teams and external consultants/contractors
- Attend and contribute to design reviews, optioneering, HAZID workshops, and stakeholder meetings
- Originate and review engineering documents, drawings, technical reports, and risk assessments
- Drive design substantiation activities, including the production of safety justifications and reviews
- Specify electrical systems and components for 50Hz/60Hz HV and LV networks
- Support commissioning and decommissioning planning
- Oversee change control, design concessions, and safety case alignment
- Develop Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) schedules
- Ensure compliance with all EHSQ policies and statutory requirements
- Lead independent reviews (IPR/ITA) and manage Clyde Design substantiations
- Review and assess calculations, technical designs, and contractor documentation
- Contribute to the development of safety documentation including Periodic Review of Safety reports
- Provide expert advice and direction across the engineering lifecycle
- Drive technical integrity through peer reviews and cross-disciplinary coordination

You will have the following qualifications & experience:

- Strong understanding of British and European electrical design standards
- Proven experience with both HV and LV systems (50Hz and 60Hz)
- Background in concept to construction stages of electrical design, preferably within high-risk, industrial, maritime, or nuclear sectors
- Experience with design assessment for hazard resilience
- Capable of authoring technical justifications and managing associated documentation
- Familiarity with systems such as pumps, HVAC, generators, SCADA, and PAVA
- Multi-discipline project experience providing electrical engineering input

Qualifications
Essential:

- Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or demonstrable equivalent experience

Desirable:

- Safety case-related training or certification

It’s great if you also have the following

- Experience in regulated, high-hazard environments (e.g., defence, nuclear)
- Familiarity with safety case development techniques (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP)
- Understanding of nuclear regulatory frameworks
- Prior experience working within UK high-security or restricted access facilities
