Summary

Would you like to work with school-age children before and after school, and during the holidays? We’d love to hear from you!

We are a young and growing day nursery that offers wraparound care & a holiday club for children up to 11 years old. What started out as childminding in 2014 just kept on growing. And in 2022 we became a fully fledged day nursery, that carried on looking after school-age children, many of whom have been with us since their early years.

Above all, we put children first. This is echoed in our staff code of conduct, and in everything we do. As we grow we're working hard to empower and enable our staff to do what they do best – play, love, teach and care for all those around them. We make sure no one is tied down with red tape, form filling or endless tick box exercises. Care and learning goes hand in hand with smiles, fun, play and laugher with us. We don't micro-manage so the role would suit someone who is a do-er, who is self motivated, enthusiastic and pro-active. In fact, starting in 2026, there is an opportunity for the right person to run and manage their own wraparound care & holiday club in a new building, alongside our nursery.

As a Playworker & Wraparound Carer, you’ll be responsible for supporting and supervising children in our before and after school room and in the garden. Dropping off and collecting children from our local schools will be part of your daily term-time routine. And in the holidays, you’ll be based at nursery, as well as having the use of our spacious fields and sports grounds. You’ll encourage creative and active play and engage with children in a way that nurtures their social, emotional, and physical development, while maintaining a safe and inclusive atmosphere.

Here are some of the things you’ll be doing:

Safety First

You’ll be taking groups of children to and from school. You’ll need to have excellent road-safety skills and a strong awareness of assessing and teaching risk to children

Ensure children’s safety and well-being at all times

Safeguarding and child protection should be at the forefront of your practice

Playtime Extraordinaire

Plan and set out structured activities and games, as well as fun free-play opportunities

Encourage teamwork, laughter, and exercise through active games and sports

Bring out children’s creativity through arts, crafts, and imaginative play

Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment where every child feels heard

Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high-quality play experiences

Set out, pack away, organise and maintain play equipment, whilst following our health and safety policy

We’re looking for someone who is...

Fun, friendly and enthusiastic

Creative and patient, with a warm, caring attitude

Able to motivate with a positive, all-inclusive, child centred approach to play

A good communicator, particularly with and between children and their parents

Able to plan and lead activities for our holiday club

The best role-model, mentor, and playtime expert around!

Training

You’ll begin by working with our current Playworker who previously worked for many years as a well known and loved Childminder in Warlingham

As you work towards taking over, we’ll support you with all the relevant training you’ll need to really shine

We’re partnered with a range of training providers including Surrey Education Services, the National Day Nurseries Association, and Parenta

We’ll support the right person on their learning journey. From the Playwork Foundation, all the way to a Level 3 Diploma in Playwork (NVQ) and beyond

Future opportunity to progress to a Level 6 qualification (EYTS or QTS) and for you to provide homework help, tutoring services or even sports coaching

Standard childcare recruitment practice applies, including following our safer recruitment policy and procedures, a DBS check, identity check, qualification check and we will kindly ask for two references.

Working hours:

Negotiable. As a minimum; 7:15-9:15am & 2:30-6:30pm term time, and 9 – 5pm during school holidays. There is the possibility of working additional hours with our younger children and early years staff during school hours, or working full-time all year round. There may also be the possibility of a 4 day week, with Friday’s off.

Skills / Qualifications:
You must have experience of working with school-aged children in co or extra-curricular activities such as sports or holiday clubs, in the Rainbows/Brownies/Guides/Scouts/Cubs as a leader, or in a school or pre-school. Babysitting alone is unfortunately not sufficient.
This role could also suit someone currently studying for a childcare or teaching degree.
An NVQ L2 or L3 Early Years qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.
