About the Employer

I am both the employer and mother of my young son. My son resides at home in the Hylton/Redhouse area of Sunderland. My son is diagnosed with Autism, Learning Disabilities and some allergies to certain foods (eggs and nuts) and dogs. He is nonverbal, however, can let others know what he wants by hand gestures or being hand led to what it is he wants, he is able to confirm what he wants when offered choices. My son is very active and enjoys being outdoors. He loves going to the beach, skate parks, riding his scooter and enjoys the freedom of going for walks and to outdoor parks, however, will require close supervision due to his vulnerability. He has access to a buggy that can be used for walks or activities that are in busy places or crowds to ensure he is safe and unable to get lost. This can be used at times when he feels overwhelmed or anxious if busy, as this enables him to feel safe whilst also using his comforter for reassurance. My son is extremely vulnerable and always requires direct 1-1 support and supervision as he is unable to identify risk to himself or others. My son needs reminders and prompt to use the bathroom however can manage going himself. He is an extremely picky eater and will only eat snacks and food from home. This will be provided by myself for any outings he goes on. My son in all other ways is a typical young boy of his age, he is a bubbly boy with lots of energy and enjoys being outdoors, running and going for walks. He is very loving and tactile and enjoys hugs and tickles. He requires someone with enthusiasm, energy, confidence and patience with the ability to lead and willingness to get involved in all activities. Summary of duties I am seeking a Personal Assistant to enable my son to access activities outside of the home, promoting some independence and allowing me time off from my caring role. • Close supervision must be always maintained. • Going Swimming • Going to the beach, parks or for walks • Going to soft plays • The PA will be required to incorporate opportunities to promote his independence and build on general day-to-day safety skills as and when opportunities present themselves.
