Chances is an OFSTED registered ‘Good’ school with ‘Outstanding’ features. We provide short-term alternative education provision for students who, for a range of reasons, are struggling in their mainstream school. After time at our provision, with the support of our great teachers and skilled youth workers, most students reintegrate back into their mainstream school successfully. Some of the students that attend Chances are working below the expected level and this has created an exciting opportunity to support them with additional intervention outside of the classroom.
Chances is part of Space DYS - our core values are:

★ Opportunity
Do you want to help us unlock potential with young people and their communities?
Do you love a challenge?
We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and committed Youth Worker/HLTA to join our dynamic team at Chances. We’re looking for energetic, motivated, and innovative individuals to help us engage young people who are at risk of exclusion and support their academic and personal development. If you’re ready to make a real impact, this is the role for you.
As a Senior Youth Support Worker / HLTA, you will provide both academic and pastoral support to students in a non-traditional setting, helping them overcome challenges that prevent them from succeeding in mainstream education. You will assist with 1-1 support outside the classroom and lead or assist in group educational activities. Additionally, you’ll help design and deliver wellbeing programs that support young people’s emotional and social development.
What is the role?
As a Senior Youth Support Worker / HLTA at Chances, you will:
.Provide 1-1 support for young people outside of the classroom, addressing a variety of barriers affecting their learning and wellbeing.
.Contribute to the design and delivery of personal, social, and/or educational programmes that engage students and meet their individual needs.
.Facilitate the development of learning skills, self-esteem, and confidence, supporting students’ reintegration into mainstream education.
.Enable young people to develop personal resilience, helping them navigate complex emotional and educational needs.
.Support students in their transition from dependence to independence, fostering self-reliance and decision-making.
.Design and deliver wellbeing packages to support students with emotional regulation and coping strategies.
.Lead or assist in classroom activities, either supporting or leading small groups in core curriculum subjects.
.Actively engage students in developing their voice and influence within their educational environment.
.Support with transport to help the students get into and out of school safely each day
.Be a self-motivated team player, bringing fresh ideas and collaborating with colleagues to create a supportive, dynamic team culture.
Who we’re looking for
About You:
.Experience managing challenging behaviour in the classroom, with a strong understanding of behaviour management strategies.
.An understanding of the Key Stage 3 / 4 National Curriculum and how to support young people within this framework.
.Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to communicate effectively with young people, colleagues, and external agencies.
.ICT literacy and the ability to integrate digital resources into your practice.
.An understanding of intervention strategies that cater to diverse learning needs.
.An ability to differentiate instruction and tailor support to meet the needs of individual students.
As part of our ambitions to improve equality and diversity, we would particularly welcome applications for this role from those who identify under any of the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010, which include race, age, disability, gender, religion or belief, and sexual orientation.
What we offer
.Pension contributions, starting at 6%, rising to 8% in the third year.
.Employee Assistance Programme available 24/7.
.Social occasions and opportunities to build relationships with colleagues.
.Continuous Professional Development (CPD), with both formal and informal training opportunities.
.Enhanced sick pay.
.Trained wellbeing champions available for a confidential chat.
.Chromebook to support your work and development.
.A value-driven culture that promotes a positive work-life balance.
