We have an opportunity for a Street Works Technician to join the Network Management service to carry out the statutory noticing, coordinating and licensing responsibilities of the service.

The Street Works team is a service providing vital operations including coordinating and registering all Highways activities and ensuring compliance with Statutory duties under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) and the Traffic Management Act 2004.

This is an interesting and varied role involving inspecting and monitoring the activities on the highway network and undertaking enforcement to ensure that the statutory standard is complied with and provide the necessary documentation to ensure the Council is not negatively impacted.

As a Street Works Technician, you will be responsible for undertaking site inspections on live and completed work sites to ensure NRSWA Statutory regulations have been observed. You will regularly review the computerised Street Works Register to report on and issue correspondence regarding Street Works including determining and issuing defect notices and initiating enforcement and recovery of costs where necessary.

We are looking for a candidate with an HNC or equivalent in Civil Engineering or relevant experience in related fields, a sound working knowledge of the Highways Act 1980 and the Street Works Act 1991. A Street Works Supervisor accreditation will be essential. You will also need to have a strong understanding of CoP for inspections, safety at Street Works and Road Works as well as reinstatement of openings in the highway. To succeed in this technical role, strong numeracy and practical technical skills will be vital.
