Job Title: Healthcare Assistant (HCA) Primary Care Location: French Weir Health Centre, Taunton, Somerset Salary: £13.22 per hour Hours: Full-time 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday Contract Type: Permanent Job Summary We are looking for an experienced, reliable, and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our established and friendly nursing team. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will work both independently and as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team to support the health and wellbeing of our patient population. The successful candidate will be confident in carrying out a wide range of clinical duties under supervision, with a strong focus on professionalism, patient care, and teamwork. You will be based primarily in a consulting room setting with your own booked clinics, and some shifts will also take place within the Community Investigation Hub, which operates from our practice site. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties Phlebotomy (venepuncture) Taking and recording blood pressures and vital signs Performing ECGs Urinalysis and urine sample collection Administering flu and pneumococcal vaccinations under Patient Specific Direction (PSD) Simple wound care and dressings Removal of sutures and clips Assisting with minor surgical procedures Supporting contraceptive coil and implant clinics (LARC) Teledermatology image capture and data entry Doppler assessments Maintaining and monitoring stock levels of clinical supplies Ensuring vaccine cold chain protocols are followed Supporting infection prevention control protocols and cleaning standards Note: All procedures will be carried out under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional. You will not be required to interpret clinical outcomes. Administrative and Support Duties Accurate and timely documentation of all clinical interactions using the patient record system (e.g., EMIS) Sending samples and specimens to the laboratory with appropriate documentation Restocking disposable equipment and clinical forms Cleaning and preparing treatment rooms Checking and maintaining emergency equipment and supplies Completing forms and health checks as required Supporting the wider team with administrative tasks as needed Team and Organisational Responsibilities Work collaboratively with GPs, Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and other team members Attend team meetings, training sessions, and practice updates Contribute to the ongoing development of protocols, procedures, and service improvement initiatives Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold the standards of the NHS Code of Conduct Support and promote the health and wellbeing of patients in line with the practice's values
