All aspects of Restorative Dentistry are offered within the Department, and it is expected that the successful candidate will gain experience within all the sub-specialties of Restorative Dentistry. The candidate will be expected to work autonomously where required, but will have the full support of the Restorative Consultant who will help them to take on challenging cases where appropriate. They may be asked to supervise Junior members of the team, or assist the Dental therapist as required. The post holder will be expected to manage NHS priority patients, ranging from some medically compromised patients requiring relatively simple restorative care, to others that will require complex restorative care. There will be access to modern equipment (including operating microscopes, rotary endodontic instruments, articulators, sandblasters etc). Dedicated nursing, administrative and secretarial support will be available. The Consultant is available to provide supervision and guidance when required. The successful post holder will have the opportunity to gain experience in general Restorative diagnosis and treatment-planning, provision of a range of endodontic, periodontal and prosthodontic treatments. There are Consultant led restorative new patient clinics, which the post holder may be expected to participate in. There are also specific new patient clinics for the dental assessment and treatment planning prior to chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgical therapy for head and neck cancer patients, with opportunity to provide treatment as necessary.
