What you'll do

Nottingham College has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, innovative and dynamic leader to join the Curriculum Leadership Team at its Basford College campus, as the Head of Faculty for SLDD & Foundation Learning. This key role involves leading and developing high-quality inclusive provision for students with Special Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (SLDD) and those on Foundation Learning programmes. You will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the faculty, ensuring outstanding teaching, learning and support that enables students to progress, achieve and thrive. This includes curriculum planning, quality improvement, staff development, and effective use of resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic leadership across SLDD and Foundation Learning programmes.
  • Ensure high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Lead curriculum development to meet learner needs, funding priorities and industry standards.
  • Line manage teaching and support staff, promoting continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Oversee safeguarding, support, and inclusive practices across the faculty. Monitor and enhance student outcomes, progression, and satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with funding, inspection and quality frameworks including Ofsted and awarding bodies.

Who we're looking for

A key focus of this role will be in driving the quality of the provision and the curriculum offer to meet the needs of our students, employers, and stake holders. Developing students’ opportunities for progression and developing readiness for employment will also be a critical factor of this role. The successful candidate will be required to liaise across other faculty areas; support services; admissions; English and maths and pastoral services to support the learner experience.

If you can demonstrate your ability to drive improvements in teaching and learning, resulting in good and better outcomes for students; lead curriculum innovations; and you have strong people management and line management skills, then we look forward to receiving your application.

  • Proven leadership experience within an FE or similar education setting.
  • Strong understanding of SLDD and Foundation Learning curriculum and inclusive education practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of quality assurance processes and performance management.
  • Experience in managing teams and driving improvement.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.
