Summary
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individuals who are seeking an opportunity to develop and become a registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
The successful candidate will embark on a 3 year ODP apprenticeship supported by UCLAN. This will be paid in line with Agenda for Change Annex 21 meaning you will receive a percentage of a top Band 5 salary throughout your training. Starting at 65% in year 1, 70% in year 2 and 75% in year 3.
Entry requirements:
• UCAS: 112 points at A2
• BTEC Extended Diploma : DMM
• Access to Higher Education Diploma: 112 points
• Foundation Entry Health and Social Care
• Key stage 3 or Adult Key Skills Level 3 in Numeracy and Literacy or Functional Skills Level 2 in Numeracy and Literacy
• GCSEs: Maths and English at Grade C/4 or equivalent such as Level 2 functional skills in Maths and English
• UCLAN apprenticeships have flexible entry requirements which take into consideration prior qualifications and experience.
Certificates of qualifications will need to be provided.
Fees and funding:
• Tuition fees are paid by funding through the Employer via the Apprenticeship Levy, meaning that you as the learner do not pay the standard tuition fee rates.
• Candidates must have a valid and eligible residency status according to the ESFA's funding rules, Annex A: Eligibility criteria: Who we fund - Pages 104-114 of the 2023-24 rules.
• Able to actively assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care during all perioperative phases, including Anaesthetics, Recovery & Scrub roles with the multidisciplinary team incorporating the whole of the patients' pathway.
• Aware of the structure and organisation of the NHS and regulatory body's code of practice implementing this into operating department practice.
• Participate in clinical governance by participating in auditing effectiveness of practice and incorporating findings.
We operate from three main hospital sites - Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow in Furness and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP practices, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
RLI and FGH have a range of District General Hospital services with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of District General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre that can help with a range of non=life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
