About the Role

The Hall Supervisor will oversee the smooth operation of dining services in the dining hall, ensuring exceptional service delivery and a positive experience for all diners. Reporting to the Catering Manager, the successful candidate will lead a team of waiting staff, manage daily operations, and uphold high standards of hospitality and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

Dining Hall Operations: Oversee the setup, service, and clear-down of meals in the dining hall, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events such as formal dinners and banquets.
Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and motivate a team of waiting staff to deliver excellent customer service, ensuring adherence to standards and procedures.
Service Excellence: Ensure all diners, including students, staff, and guests, receive a warm, professional, and efficient service.
Event Support: Assist with the planning and execution of catering for events, conferences, and private functions, ensuring seamless coordination with the Catering Manager.
Health & Safety Compliance: Maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and cleanliness in the dining hall, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and policies.
Stock & Equipment Management: Monitor stock levels, manage inventory, and ensure dining equipment is maintained and used appropriately.
Customer Interaction: Act as the primary point of contact for diners, addressing queries, feedback, or complaints promptly and professionally.
Administrative Duties: Assist with scheduling staff rotas, recording attendance, and contributing to budget monitoring for dining operations.
Sustainability: Support a commitment to sustainability by minimizing food waste and promoting environmentally friendly practices.
Person Specification

Essential:

-Previous experience in a supervisory role within a catering, hospitality, or restaurant environment.
-Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
-Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations (e.g., Level 2 Food Safety Certification or equivalent).
-Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
-Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime as required.
-A professional, approachable, and positive demeanour.

Desirable:

-Experience in a higher education or collegiate environment.
-Familiarity with formal dining protocols and event catering.
-Basic IT skills for rota management and administrative tasks.
-A passion for delivering high-quality dining experiences and contributing to a vibrant community.
