Do you have experience in managing a team, setting up specialist activities or providing technical support in an academic setting? If so, we would like to hear from you about an exciting opportunity to join the SoNAH as a Senior Clinical Skills Technician.
Working alongside technical colleagues, academic staff, visiting health professionals, faculty and industry partners, the Senior Clnincial skills Technician supports the delivery of high-quality simulation-based education and clinical skills services within the Clinical Skills and Simulation Facilities at Birmingham Newman University.
The post is an integral role within the SoNAH team and is essentially one of the lead points of contact for the planning, development and delivery of specialist activity. This involves responsibilities such as:
• Liaising with users to clarify activity requirements, ensuring that associated documentation is accurate and available to enable delivery
• Advising on the appropriate use of specialist equipment and facilities in accordance with the needs of teaching, CPD and external enterprise activities which may include local practice learning partners
• Coordinating the provision of equipment, materials and technical support as required
• Mentoring, supervising and supporting junior and new members of the team
• Planning, costing and procurement of specialist equipment and consumables
• Maintaining and implementing health and safety procedures, processes, and standards as appropriate
• Ensuring equipment performs to manufacturer’s specification by overseeing maintenance and calibration schedules and/ or co-ordinating servicing and repairs
• Operation of specialist equipment such as high-fidelity human patient simulators, clinical training models, live streaming services (SMOTs) and the Immersive Interactive Suite
• The successful candidate will have strong organisational and communication skills, will be able work to tight deadlines and demonstrate the ability to work under their own initiative and as part of a team. The role is extremely varied and would suit a dynamic, creative and self-motivated individual who is keen to learn and develop a wide range of skills.
