We are looking for an Estates Surveyor to join our Commercial, Property and Procurement Team to help manage a large and diverse portfolio of properties and projects. This is a hybrid role, with some expectation of travel across the county. Your main base will be at one of the key NYC offices.

If you are a member of RICS, looking for you next challenge and have experience as a quantity surveyor, we would love to hear from you!

What would you cover?

North Yorkshire Council’s Property and Land Team looks after a wide and diverse range of over 3,000 land and property assets spread across the beautiful 3,341 square miles of North Yorkshire. Managed through a centralised “corporate landlord” model, the Estates service takes care of everything from schools and office buildings to farmland, industrial units, and surplus land.

This team plays a key role in supporting the delivery of vital local services by managing buildings used by frontline teams, as well as working closely with partners like the Police, NHS, and third sector organisations to meet shared property needs. Whether it’s a community hub, a commercial space, or a patch of green land, the Estates service helps make sure every asset is used in the best way possible for the people of North Yorkshire.

The Role

You’ll play a key role in managing and developing the Council’s diverse property portfolio. From handling complex valuations and lease negotiations to supporting strategic regeneration projects, this is your chance to make a real impact in your community while growing your professional expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage leases, licenses, and rights over Council land and property
Conduct property inspections and valuations using RICS standards
Support regeneration and development projects across the region
Maximise income from Council-owned commercial assets
Lead or contribute to strategic property initiatives
Maintain accurate property data and risk registers
Liaise with consultants, developers, and public bodies
Prepare reports for committees and funding bodies
Promote innovative working practices and customer-focused outcomes
Represent the Council at public and stakeholder events

Whether you're just starting out or bringing years of experience, you'll be part of a supportive team that values innovation, collaboration, and high standards. You'll work closely with internal and external partners, contribute to strategic planning, and help shape the future of our local area through smart, sustainable property management.

What you will bring

You will have Full RICS qualification and membership (MRICS) and relevant experience within property or estate management. You will also have good technical ability and experience in and manging property portfolios, including commercial, operational and land assets.
