Summary


The Governors of Ysgol Golftyn are keen to appoint an enthusiastic assistant to work with classes and pupils at the school. The successful candidate will be required to work with a team of dedicated staff and contribute to the school's general activities. Application forms should be returned to: Headteacher of Ysgol Golftyn – Mrs N Cooper As so many applications are received, we cannot always contact every individual applicant, so if you do not hear from us within two weeks of the closing date, you should assume that your application was not successful.JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Teaching Assistant Supporting & Delivering Learning 1.2 Learning Support 2 Level 2: - Work under the direction / guidance of teaching / senior staff to undertake work / care / support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher to manage pupils and the classroom. Work can be done in the classroom or outside the main teaching area. Support for Pupils • Supervise and provide specific support to pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities • Assist with the development and implementation of individual education / behaviour plans and personal care programmes • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them in accordance with individual needs • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils • Encourage pupils to interact with others and take part in activities led by the teacher • Giving feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher Support for Teachers • Create and maintain a purposeful, organized and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with displaying pupils' work • Use strategies, in collaboration with the teacher, to help pupils achieve learning goals • Assist with planning learning activities • Monitor pupils' responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement / progress as directed • Give details and regular feedback to teachers on pupils' achievement, progress, problems etc. • Promoting pupils' good behaviour, dealing promptly with incidents in accordance with established policy and encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour • Administering routine tests and energizing exams and marking pupils' work regularly • Provide clerical / administrative support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, coursework administration etc. Curriculum Support • Undertake structured and agreed learning activities / teaching programmes, adapting activities according to pupils' responses • Undertake programs linked to local and national learning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy, early years records achievement and progress and feeds back to the teacher • Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils' competence and independence when using it • Prepare, maintain and use equipment / resources needed to carry out the relevant lesson plans / learning activity and assist pupils to use them Support for the School • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person • Be aware of difference and support it and ensure that all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop • Contribute to the ethos / work / general aims of the school • Value and support the role of other professionals • Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required • Participate in training and other learning activities and develop performance as required • Assist with supervising pupils outside lesson times, including before and after school and lunchtime • Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and activities outside the school as required and take responsibility for a group under the teacher's supervision JOB REQUIREMENTSExperience • Working with or looking after children of a relevant age Qualifications • Good numeracy / literacy skills • Completion of the DfES Teaching Assistants Induction Programme • Level 2 for teaching assistants or equivalent qualifications or experience - experience of working with children • Training in the relevant learning strategies e.g. Literacy Knowledge and skills • Effective use of ICT to support learning • Use other equipment technology - video, photocopier • Understand relevant policies / codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation • General understanding of the new Curriculum for Wales • Basic understanding of children's development and learning • The ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek out learning opportunities • The ability to relate well to children and adults • Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position in these • Training will be available
