Summary

Job Description

The postholder will work in a demanding environment of change and rigid deadlines and is responsible to the Lead Taxation Officer for the day-to-day performance of the Council Tax Team. This team will maintain the Council Tax database and recover unpaid Council Tax, Housing Benefit overpayments and Non-Domestic Rates. The postholder will deliver a quality service and ensure a regular throughput of work.

Requirements

The postholder will supervise the day-to-day activities and staff of the Council Tax Processing and Taxation Recovery teams.

The postholder will be responsible for the maintenance of the Council Tax database. The postholder will maintain a good knowledge of Council Tax processes and procedures and will deliver training on them.

The postholder will respond to all forms of customer enquiries, and will be responsible for supporting team members responding to customer enquiries.

The postholder will participate in personal and team development.

The Individual

Experience in administration recovery and enforcement of Council Tax.

Experience of working in a busy office environment using relevant technology.

Minimum 4 Standard Grades or equivalent including Maths and English.

Effective organisational skills, including time management. Strong customer care skills and focus.

Self confidence.

Self-motivated.

Knowledge of Council Tax legislation.

Ability to lead and organise the activities of a group of staff.

Ability to work to deadlines and to deliver expected outcomes.

Proven ability to deal with difficult and/or confrontational customers.

Ability to analyse and prioritise recovery of debt.

Ability to liaise and work effectively with debt collection partners.

Effective communication skills - both written and verbal.

Appreciation and acceptance of and commitment to the importance of confidentiality.

A flexible approach to new working practices and technology.

Flexibility to meet needs and demands of the service.

Hours per week: 36.25 hrs

£16.13 per hour
