Job Overview:
The Premises Manager is responsible for the security, maintenance, and overall condition of the school site, ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment for students, staff and visitors. This role involves overseeing day-to-day operations, managing maintenance staff, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Management
- Oversee the maintenance, cleanliness, and general upkeep of the school buildings and grounds.
- Schedule and coordinate repairs, renovations, and routine maintenance.
- Ensure all equipment, tools, and facilities are in safe working condition.
- Manage heating, lighting, and ventilation systems efficiently.
Health and Safety Compliance
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including fire safety and emergency procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and safety checks.
Safety and Site Supervision
- Ensure the security of the school premises, including managing access control and alarm systems.
- Monitor contractors and external service providers working on-site.
- Respond to emergencies and urgent maintenance issues promptly.
Budget and Resource Management
- Manage premises-related budgets, ensuring cost-effective solutions.
- Liaise with suppliers and contractors to obtain quotes and schedule services.
- Maintain stock levels of essential maintenance supplies.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Supervise and support cleaning and maintenance staff.
- Work closely with school leadership to plan site improvements.
- Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and external stakeholders regarding premises-related matters.
Person SpecificationEssential Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in facilities management, maintenance, or site supervision.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage budgets and negotiate.
