Summary
Manage a group of assigned patients, recognising situations that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of the neonate and to take appropriate action. Plan, assess, implement and evaluate nursing care for neonates. Co-ordinate patient care and start planning for discharge from admission by liaising with multi-disciplinary team and neonatal outreach. Provide information and support for families, liaising with relevant support services as appropriate. Ensures there is a high standard of documentation which is accurate, legible and meets all legal requirements. Able to set up, use and maintain all equipment used on patients within the ward and attend training as necessary. Recognise and assess emergencies occurring in neonates, and take appropriate action. Able to administer intravenous therapy safely. Maintain a safe, friendly and welcoming ward environment for families, visitors and staff and where family centred care is practiced. Display an understanding and supportive attitude towards colleagues to create a pleasant work environment. Ensure clinical practice is research based. Contribute to the implementation of practice enhancements, seeking support and guidance. Take personal responsibility to develop an awareness of local, regional and national objectives, policies and political agenda Work within the Code of Professional Conduct and all other NMC directives. Keep post-registration education and practice up to date and in line with knowledge and skills outline Managerial and organisational: Will take charge of the ward, demonstrating the ability to delegate and supervise. Will deploy nursing staff within the team and ensure the provision of skill mix necessary to maintain the patient and staff safety, utilising resources efficiently. Work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to the mutual benefit of neonates and their families.
