Summary


An exciting opportunity for two Fixed Term (6 months) Part Time (26.25 hours) has arisen to work as part of the audiology team providing routine assessment of adults and school age children referred
to the Audiology department at Walsall Manor Hospital.

This will include patients referred directly to audiology via their G.P. or for patients attending ENT outpatient clinics.

This post involves fitting hearing aids and supporting patients in their use as part of their rehabilitation.

The post holder will be expected to provide
services within the hospital, at outreach clinics and in patients’ homes when required.

Undertake routine clinical caseloads in Adult Audiology without supervision, at Walsall Manor Hospital and at outreach clinics.
This will include providing Audiology cover for ENT clinics and a full hearing assessment and hearing aid fitting service, to include hearing
assessments, reassessments, fittings, reviews and repairs of NHS hearing aids

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.

A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.

To work as part of the audiology team providing routine assessment of adults and referred to the department. This will include
patients referred directly to audiology via their G.P. or for patients attending ENT outpatient clinics.

This post involves fitting hearing aids and supporting patients in their use as part of their rehabilitation. The post holder will be expected to provide services within the hospital, at outreach clinics and in patients’ homes when required.
Key Responsibilities
To perform independently all aspects of routine hearing assessments on adults
To perform all aspects of adult hearing aid provision including assessment, fitting, verification, repair, rehabilitation and counselling.
To undertake GP referrals for the provision of hearing aids within the agreed criteria, including onward referral for ENT Consultant assessment.
To liaise with other primary care professionals to promote effective multi-agency communication.
To communicate outcomes and plan treatments whilst identifying and overcoming barriers to communication.
To help ensure that statistical information is collected and that stock control of hearing aids is maintained.
To undertake the receipt/despatch of aural impressions/ear-moulds.
Ensure the availability of up-to-date patient information leaflets
Assist in the reconditioning of hearing aid systems
To maintain patient records ensuring that data entered on Audiology Patient Management Systems is accurate and current.
In addition, individual staff have a major role in suggesting and implementing improvement to services and in exercising professional responsibility for both themselves and their peers within an open ‘no blame’ culture
