Summary

Full-Time, Fixed-Term (2 years)

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Modern Greek Studies at Royal Holloway, University of London. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a related field, an emerging track record of outstanding publications, and well-developed plans for new research projects. This post is generously funded by the A. G. Leventis Foundation and is therefore fixed term to coincide with the duration of the funding. We expect the candidate to be available to start in September 2025.

Royal Holloway is a leading centre for the diachronic study of Hellenism. We are home to the Hellenic Institute and its associated Centre for Greek Diaspora Studies (CGDS), which host a lively calendar of events and initiatives. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any field of Modern Greek Studies, including religious minorities and interdisciplinary approaches, who can make an original contribution to our research culture in this area. Preference may be given to candidates with a specialism in the field of Modern Greek diasporas, including non-Greek diasporas from and in Modern Greece.

The postholder will be expected to carry out original research. This fellowship also provides varied opportunities for career development. The postholder will have a fraction of their time allocated to the administration of the Hellenic Institute and CGDS where they can develop experience in leadership and organisation. They will also be expected to contribute to introductory Modern European teaching in the Department of History.

Applicants should answer the questions on the online Application Form and upload (1) a CV and (2) a Research Statement of 750-1,000 words outlining the main contributions of their original work so far and their research plans for the Fellowship. Further additional material (e.g. covering letters) is not required.

In return we offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including:
Generous annual leave entitlement
Training and Development opportunities
Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution
Various schemes including Cycle to Work, Season Ticket Loans and help with the cost of Eyesight testing.
