Summary

Patient/client care: Assisting and contributing in the management and organisation of a ward clinical area. Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care. Act as a clinical and professional role model, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area. Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. To maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care. To co-ordinate the patients discharge arrangements in accordance with NGH Discharge Policy. To educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified. To complete patient documentation correctly. To assist in establishing and monitoring protocols/care pathways. To participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication written and verbal. To ensure patient confidentiality. To supervise junior staff in the delivery of care. Responsible for the safe supply, storage, administration, checking and disposal of medications including controlled drugs. To undertake any expanded roles deemed necessary for the role following the Trust policy Expansion of Professional Practice for Registered Healthcare Practitioners. Undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific Induction and competency Programmes. To contribute to annual appraisal and be responsible for own personal performance/development plan to achieve KSF outline for role. Contribute to the education and training of others, gaining an understanding of clinical supervision. Actively promote evidence-based practice within the clinical area and contribute to audit initiatives. To develop and maintain an awareness of budgeting, exercising care and economy in the ordering and use of equipment, supported by written documentation where applicable. Responsible for the effective and efficient use of Clinical, physical and financial resources. Human resources: To help maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor in the supervision and teaching of less experienced staff. To attend Trust/local orientation programmes and mandatory training sessions. To be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness. Research & development: To practice clinical competencies in line with relevant Trust initiatives e.g. Essence of Care. To maintain and promote an awareness of evidence-based practice and participate in its Implementation. To contribute to research and development programmes within the ward/department.
