Lead the team shaping the future of light rail in the West Midlands.
We are the driving force behind modern, sustainable urban transportation, connecting cities, towns, and most importantly - people!
With a strong presence in the heart of England, we play a crucial role in connecting communities, enhancing mobility, and contributing to the economic development of the region.
Our sleek trams provide fast, convenient, and eco-friendly transportation solutions, reducing road congestion, lowering carbon emissions, and fostering a greener future for the West Midlands.
As we continue to expand and evolve, we're now looking for an inspiring and people-focused Maintenance Team Leader to join us at our Wednesbury Depot.
This is an opportunity to lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of technicians and apprentices, ensuring that our trams are safe, available, and ready to keep the region moving.
This isn't just about managing tasks or carrying out maintenance. This is about creating the right environment for your team to thrive.
You'll instil a strong, consistent culture of continuous improvement, encourage open communication, and lead by example to promote a collaborative, “one team” mindset across the depot.
In addition to this, as our Maintenance Team Leader you will:
- Lead and motivate a team of technicians and apprentices, fostering development through regular coaching, 1:1s and feedback.
- Oversee daily operations, allocating workloads and resources to meet service targets.
- Support your team to maintain high standards of performance, safety and professionalism.
- Encourage a culture of proactive problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Address challenges head-on and constructively challenging poor practice when needed.
- Drive collaboration between maintenance, stores, and engineering support teams.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and industry regulations.
In order to be successful in this role, you must be / have experience with:
- Proven experience leading and developing technical teams in a production or engineering environment.
- A confident, people-first leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Someone who can hit the ground running and help scale up operations during a period of significant growth.
- Strong understanding of preventative and corrective maintenance in safety-critical environments.
- Ability to manage busy, fast-paced workloads while maintaining high standards.
- A mechanical or electrical engineering-based NVQ Level 3 or higher, or a time-served apprenticeship.
- A full UK driving licence.
It would be great if you also have:
- Experience in rolling stock maintenance or within a light rail / rail environment.
- Health and Safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH).
Please note: All applicants must be able to pass a drugs and alcohol test in line with rail industry standards.
