This Specialty Doctor post in Adult Psychiatry is a full time post shared between Mulberry 3 (recovery ward) and the Crisis team, Cambridge. The post holder will provide clinical input to the assessment and management of patients contacting crisis team, Cambridge, and those under the care of our Mulberry 3 ward with support from the respective Consultants and the wider team.

• This post will work across the Crisis team and Mulberry 3 (Recovery ward)

• On Crisis team days provide support and clinical advice for the crisis team regarding the management of high-risk patients contacting the service

• On Crisis team days provide assessments for patients requiring urgent assessment including mental health act assessments when indicated

• On Mulberry 3 days management of Mulberry 3 (Recovery ward), under supervision of consultant psychiatrist

• On Mulberry 3 days to work with the MDT on the unit and other teams within and outside the organisation and share responsibility with them for day-to-day management of the unit and seamless patient care.

• To work with the consultant and team managers to monitor and improve the quality of care that the service provides.

• Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students as well as the wider MDT including support with clinical skills evaluation and development

• To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance, audit and research.

• To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

Mulberry 3:

The 16 bedded inpatient recovery unit is responsible for delivering evidence-based inpatient interventions. The focus is on enabling patients to attain a state in which they feel clinically safe to take on the challenges that exist in the community. Recovery principles are at the heart of the interventions that are delivered. The unit covers the geographical area of Cambridge City and the surrounding villages.

The post holder will work with the Consultant Psychiatrist primarily to provide medical input to the patients on Mulberry 3.

The post holder will:
• Assess newly admitted patients for their physical and mental health needs including risk
• Take active steps to address their identified needs in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team
• Liaise with other health professionals and other voluntary and third sector agencies
• Work with MDT in discharge planning
• Attend team meetings and routine clinical handovers
• Guide and support other junior doctors in day to day functioning of the unit and distribution of workload
• Actively participate in local and Trust-wise educational activities. The services regularly have medical student attachments and involvement in teaching is encouraged.

CRHTT, Cambridge

The crisis team base is located on our Fulbourn Hospital site. The post holder will work with the Consultant Psychiatrist primarily to provide medical input to the community within the Cambridge city and neighbouring villages. The post holder will provide crisis team medical cover, joining the Cambridge CRHT, which aims to treat patients entering the secondary mental health care who are likely to be returned to their normal functioning within approximately 2-3 weeks. Supervision and training from the Consultant Psychiatrists will be provided.

The post holder will:

- Assess newly referred patients who are either referred from the community services or from the A&E
- Patients who need home treatment will be reviewed regularly to make a follow-up plan
- Attend team meetings and routine hand overs
- Risk assess patients who are in the community and plan further management
- Working with a multi-disciplinary team
- Actively participate in local and trust wide educational activities. The services regularly have medical student attachments and involvement in teaching is encouraged.

The post holder will be expected to take part in regular supervision, annual appraisal and annual job planning.
