Summary
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management Lead, support, and manage teams of practice nurses, healthcare assistants (HCAs), and other clinical support staff across practices. Ensure consistency in care standards and adherence to clinical governance frameworks. Coordinate recruitment, training, and development of nursing staff. Clinical Oversight Ensure safe, evidence-based clinical practices. Support chronic disease management protocols (e.g., diabetes, asthma, hypertension). Lead on vaccination programs, wound care, and other nursing-led services. Quality Assurance & Compliance Ensure practices comply with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards. Monitor clinical audits, incident reports, and patient safety metrics. Promote continuous quality improvement across practices. Strategic Development Contribute to business planning, workforce development, and service redesign. Implement new models of care (e.g., multidisciplinary team working). Align nursing services with local Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) and Primary Care Networks (PCNs). Resource & Workforce Planning Manage staffing rotas, caseload distribution, and resource allocation. Assess future workforce needs and training gaps. Communication & Collaboration Act as a liaison between nurses, GPs, practice managers, and external stakeholders. Facilitate information sharing, policy updates, and best practices across sites. Importance in Primary Care Ensuring safe, consistent care delivery across multiple practices. Empowering nursing teams to work at the top of their license. Driving innovations in primary care, especially as healthcare shifts toward integrated, preventative models.
