This post is fixed term until 31st March 2026.

Working4U aims to support learners, families and communities to improve their skills, knowledge and understanding. Working4U works closely with external partners and the wider community to support lifelong learning for all ages and abilities.

The Adult Learning and Literacies Team offers a range of learning opportunities to help adults develop their skills and build their confidence. Dedicated Literacies Groups offer learners 1-1 and small group tutoring support with their literacy and numeracy skills. Family Learning courses support parents and carers to develop their confidence while learning with their child/children.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Community Learning and Development Tutor to plan and deliver literacies learning and family learning in West Dunbartonshire. With an appropriate qualification, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering literacies in line with the Social Practice model and Scotland’s Adult Literacies Curriculum Framework Guidelines. As such, they should have an understanding of the processes used in Adult Literacies work as well as the ability to engage with adults in a positive manner to deliver, review and evaluate learning. The post holder will also support trained volunteer tutors within a group setting.

In addition the post holder would be expected to contribute to the department’s performance management processes and to self-evaluate their work.

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Children and Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2020 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.
