Summary
Position – Part-Time Caretaker
Location – St Giles Church, Market Place, Pontefract
Contract – Permanent (after 6 Months’ Probation)
Hours – 16 hours per week @ £12.21 per hour.
Core Hours: Monday – Friday 2.5 hours per day
Additional hours may be done flexibly in line with the needs of the church
Introduction
Due to the retirement of the current Caretaker, the Vicar and PCC of St Giles are now looking to appoint.
The right candidate should be reliable, trustworthy and willing to work flexible hours as required. The job requires someone with the ability to communicate at various levels and work with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
The job entails working under the direction \ instruction of church officers, to assist in the provision of room preparation, maintenance and security services on church premises thereby ensuring a safe working environment.
An enhanced DBS Disclosure and successful completion of Church of England Safeguarding training will be required for the successful applicant.
Specific Responsibilities
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, health, safety and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the Church
Be supportive of colleagues and volunteers and be able to work collaboratively with them
Attend relevant meetings as required
Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required
Treat all users of the Church with courtesy and consideration
Present a positive personal image, contributing to a welcoming environment of the church
Comply with health and safety policies and procedures at all times
Promote and ensure the health and safety of users, staff & visitor (in accordance with appropriate health & safety legislation) at all times
Other duties commensurate with the post as directed by the Incumbent or delegated official.
Tasks
Security
Lock/unlock Church building and areas
Assist with regular security checks and identify security risks
Cleaning and Maintenance
Ensure the Church and all its facilities are kept clean and tidy
Undertake/ assist with minor/simple repairs
Collect and assemble waste for collection
Undertake emergency cleaning duties
Provide emergency access to the church site and be aware of evacuation procedures and the safety information leaflet
Undertake activities to maintain safe and clean external environment e.g. gritting
Resources
Ensure the maintenance of a clean and orderly working environment
Timely & accurate preparation of routine equipment/resources/material ready for room rental clients
Undertake basic record keeping e.g. accident book, cleaning logs
Refill and replace consumables e.g. soap & towels etc.
Report faulty equipment & other maintenance requirements to appropriate person
Maintain the security of church premises by securing entrances/exits as appropriate and reporting potential security breaches
Ensure lights and other equipment are switched off as appropriate
Undertake and participate in the organisation and movement of furniture within the building
