DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES There are currently 25 Consultant Surgeons with variable sessional commitments. The next available post is due to commence in October 2023. The post is based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Wilmslow Road, Manchester M20 4BX. The post-holder will be allocated an Assigned Educational Supervisor for the year. ATTAINMENTS Educational Medical Degree AF Qualifications Full registration with GMC MRCS (or equivalent) CCT or Within six months to CCT FRCS (Gen Surg) or its equivalent AF Professional Qualifications GMC registration CE 2. TRAINING Completed FY2 3. EXPERIENCE Job Specific Satisfactory training record or satisfactory ARCP Completion of higher surgical training Experience of MDT AF/1/R Management/ Audit Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit and research. Evidence of active participation in clinical research/ audit AF/I 4. TEACHING Experience and desire to be involved in teaching and education Interest in teaching non- medical staff 5. PERSONAL SKILLS Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills Awareness of specific needs of patients and carers, issues relating to service provision for cancer patients in hospital and the community Ability and enthusiasm to teach medical undergraduates and Allied Health Professionals Higher degree in allied subjects (MD or medical education or management qualifications) Recognition of the importance of MDT processes and engagement with multispecialty working. Empathy with patients and carers involved in tertiary treatments and understanding of their special needs. AF/1/R Active interest in research and audit (Evidence of completed audit and Publication in peer- reviewed journals) Commitment to research Clarity of career aims, in particular reasons for choosing fellowship post in complex colorectal surgery Evidence of being a good team member 6.
