Summary
Senior Plant Engineer - Leading Construction Company - Dorset
Role Overview:
My client is a highly successful and well-established Building and Civil Engineering Company based in the New Forest.
Due to planned growth and expansion, they are looking to appoint on a permanent basis an experienced Senior Plant Engineer / Senior Plant Mechanic to support the Plant Team in maintain a large fleet of vehicles which could include anything from 360 excavators to dumpers, rollers and everything in between.
This is a hybrid position whereby the successful candidate will be working both out of the company's offices in SW Hampshire and across various sites in the Southwest as required dealing with fault finding and repairs.
The successful individual will assist the Plant Manager in providing quality plant, vehicles and mechanical services to the operational teams, in a safe, timely and commercially effective manner. To ensure that the Engineering team achieve, and persistently maintain, high standards of workmanship and competence in performing tasks associated with preventative maintenance checks and general maintenance whilst maintaining high standards of internal and external communications and relationships.
Additional duties and responsibilities:
* Ensure our internal plant & vehicle assets are safe to use, meet all current legislation, are well maintained, following OEM guidance.
* Supervise the day-to-day maintenance of plant and machinery, prioritizing & ensuring maximum availability and productivity in line with company procedures and legislative requirements.
* Oversee the Plant Engineering team daily, ensuring team members meet their objectives, job responsibilities, and support their personal development plans.
* Carry out inspections, diagnose faults and defects on plant equipment and components, including testing, dismantling, repairing, and re-assembling as needed.
* Support operatives and employees in preventive maintenance checks, services, and general maintenance/repairs of plant equipment and related components.
* Perform emergency call-out repairs as required.
* Participate in and support planned maintenance.
* Report daily plant availability to management.
* Ensure all teamwork aligns with safe systems of work, and that PPE and safety equipment are always used.
* Take responsibility for your own health and safety, as well as that of others affected by your actions at work.
* Cooperate, report unsafe conditions, and comply with company management systems and safe systems of work to help meet legal requirements.
* Ensure all necessary recording of work, parts and oils/lubes is completed using the company plant database
* Effectively work with the team in assessing parts required are ordered in a timely and commercially effective manner, assist to maintain correct stock levels.
Essential Requirements:
Strong communication skills
* Proficient in computer literacy
* Excellent time and priority management
* Skilled in problem-solving
* Plant, Agricultural machinery or HGV Engineering background
* Experience in team supervision
* NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical Maintenance (or equivalent)
Desirable Requirements:
Practical Leadership
* Experience in the Construction, civil engineering, waste Industry
* Experience with Excavators, dumpers, compaction equipment.
* Welding & gas cutting skills
