Active Together is a partnership organisation that works to help communities in Leicestershire, Leicester, and Rutland get moving a little more.
This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Development Officer, who would like to support us to work with communities, organisations and partners to deliver our Physical Activity Framework and support our vision of Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland: a place where physical activity is part of daily life, leading to people living healthier and happier lives.
Physical activity isn't a nice-to-have; it is essential to support people to live healthier and happier lives. ‘If physical activity were a drug, we would refer to it as a miracle cure due to the many great illnesses it can prevent and treat’.
National guidelines advise that physical activity promotion, healthcare-based interventions, and community-wide programmes are some of the ‘best buys’ for getting a population active. As a partnership, we want to ensure that we focus on improving health (through physical activity) in all our decisions, programmes, and policies.
About the Role
This post will support the Development Manager/Development Officer in successfully delivering programmes and initiatives as part of a dedicated health and physical activity workstream.
Examples of projects to be supported (although not a definitive list):
- Universal and targeted programmes to raise physical activity in low-participating groups and settings across the life-course
- Programmes to raise the awareness of the health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity to professionals, settings and communities
- Programmes to support professionals and groups to embed physical activity into their settings/programmes/policies
- Local and National Physical Activity Campaigns to reduce inactivity and increase participation
- Programmes to support access to physical activity facilities within communities
- Encouraging people to take responsibility for embedding physical activity into their daily lives
- Address the equality, diversity and inclusion challenges that are prevalent in physical activity provision
- Make a positive difference to the physical activity levels in our Places and Communities
