Are you an experienced English teacher ready to step into leadership? A School in area of Redbridge is looking for an ambitious Deputy Head of English to join their team from September 2025.

This is a full-time, permanent position with a TLR 2b (£5,833), ideal for a practitioner with a passion for literacy, literature, and learning - and a drive to support department-wide development. Working alongside the Head of English, you'll help shape curriculum design, lead on teaching and learning strategies, and support staff development to raise standards across the board.

You'll be joining a school that values high expectations, collaboration, and innovation in the classroom. With a supportive leadership team and strong professional development pathways, this role provides the ideal next step for an experienced teacher looking to make a wider impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Head of Department in leading the English faculty
• Lead on curriculum planning, assessment, and teaching strategy
• Mentor and support teaching staff to improve practice and student outcomes
• Monitor progress and use data to drive interventions and improvement
• Champion high-quality teaching and a love of reading and writing
• Contribute to whole-school literacy initiatives and cross-curricular collaboration
• Step into departmental leadership when needed and represent the department at key meetings

Qualifications and Experience

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Strong experience teaching English at secondary level, ideally KS3-KS5
• Previous experience in curriculum coordination, leadership, or mentoring
• Deep knowledge of the English curriculum, assessment frameworks, and teaching methods
• Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
• A commitment to inclusive education, student achievement, and staff development
