Ancillary Assistant – Join Our Supportive Team!

Are you passionate about working with children and supporting their development? Horton Lodge Special School is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Ancillary Assistants to join our team.

Positions available

• 2 days / 13 hours per week (Thursday and Friday 08:45-15:45). Permanent
• 1 full time / 32.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday 08:45-15:45). Fixed term until July 2026 with the view to make permanent dependant on funding.

About the role

As an Ancillary Assistant, you will work under the direct instruction of teaching staff, providing essential support to both pupils and teachers in the classroom. You will play a key role in ensuring a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for pupils with diverse needs. Responsibilities include:

• Encourage interaction and engagement in activities led by teachers
• Assist children with personal, health and self-help needs
• Supervise and support pupils, ensuring safety
• Help prepare and maintain classroom environments and displays
• Support teachers with pupil record-keeping and administrative tasks
• Prepare and maintain learning resources and general equipment
• Participate in training sessions and professional development

What we’re looking for

We are seeking a friendly, organised, and proactive individual who:

• Has experience working with or caring for children of primary school age (or willingness to learn)
• Is confident and approachable with strong communication skills
• Can relate well to both children and adults
• Is adaptable, willing to take on a variety of tasks, and eager to learn
