Sky is looking for an experienced and dynamic Engineering Manager in RDK Developer Experience Services team to lead and manage engineering teams responsible for building and integrating cutting-edge software tools to support RDK development and deployment. This position is responsible for overseeing a team of engineers, fostering innovation, improving processes, and driving the successful delivery of high-quality software tools and applications.

The Engineering Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions that scale effectively across various systems and platforms. These software tools are used to support development and deployment of devices that use Reference Design Kit (RDK), which is deployed on over 100+ million devices spanning video, broadband and home security.

Sky's development environment is advanced and highly integrated. It uses industry-standard tools that are combined effectively to support a fast-moving, agile development cycle. The combination of these tools running on cloud infrastructure, coupled with effective use of Open-Source code, allows Sky to deliver features and products against aggressive timelines.

What You'll Do:

As the Engineering Manager of the team, you will be responsible to lead and manage a team of engineers, providing guidance and mentorship to junior and senior developers. Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

You will also be responsible to oversee engineering projects from concept to delivery, ensuring milestones are met, and quality is maintained. Collaborate with product management, design, and other teams to define requirements, priorities, and timelines.

This position will require daily collaboration with the Development, Release, and QA teams.

  • Technical Leadership: Drive technical decision-making across the team, ensuring adherence to best practices and design patterns. Provide hands-on guidance on complex technical challenges and help resolve blockers.
  • Innovation & Process Improvement: Promote innovation and continuous improvement through the adoption of new technologies, processes, and methodologies. Encourage experimentation and provide a platform for team members to propose new ideas.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Architecture, Development, QA, and Operations, to ensure successful delivery of features. Align technical efforts with business goals.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to long-term planning for technical architecture, systems scaling, and infrastructure optimization. Lead the strategy for maintaining and upgrading systems, ensuring they meet business needs.
  • Performance & Code Reviews: Conduct regular performance reviews, code reviews, and ensure high standards in code quality and efficiency. Provide constructive feedback and set clear development goals for engineers.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, ensuring alignment on goals, timelines, and deliverables. Communicate progress and challenges effectively to senior leadership.

What You'll Bring:

  • Proven experience in managing engineering teams, including mentoring developers and driving projects to completion.
  • Strong technical expertise in Dev Ops, CI/CD Pipelines, Opensource projects, Linux based systems and build orchestration frameworks like Yocto project
  • Expertise in agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and experience managing teams in an agile environment.
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, or similar programming languages and experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native solutions
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to effectively manage a team and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complex technical challenges.

Team overview:

RDK Developer Experience Services Team within the RDK Core Technology and Operations team is dedicated to optimizing the developer and deployment experience by aligning tools and processes. We focus on streamlining and accelerating the RDK development process, managing third-party open-source consumption, and maintaining a common build framework for software development on CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) devices .

This team supports CI/CD pipelines for all RDK profiles, conducts open-source license scanning and static analysis, and manage deployment accelerator tools required for RDK field deployments. This role involves close collaboration with colleagues across the UK, India, and the US, offering a dynamic and truly international working environment. Product - We have developed award-winning products such as Sky Glass and Sky Stream, Hub6 and POD leveraging the Reference Design Kit (RDK) platform, which is deployed on over 100 million devices across video, broadband (Routers and Boosters), and home security services.
