Summary

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn't exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

The School of Engineering is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated Lecturer who will make an important contribution to our teaching and learning provision and provide teaching cover specifically in the subject areas of applied mechanics and finite element analysis. There will also be a requirement to contribute to the delivery of other appropriate modules as deemed necessary. The post is 'fixed term' for one year starting September 2025 (to be confirmed following interview).

The school has a diverse body of students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and we have an opportunity for a new member to join our team. This is an ideal opportunity for an early career academic or experienced industry practitioner to take on an exciting role and to develop a career shaping the next generation of professional engineers.

We wish to appoint an individual who can teach from Level 3 through to Level 7. Using both their subject expertise and their experience in a research or industry environment, the successful candidate will engage and inspire our students.

You will be committed to ensuring an outstanding student experience and will:

  • Provide teaching cover on the delivery of applied mechanics (strength of materials) and advanced (non-linear) finite element analysis whilst also contributing to relevant modules at all levels as deemed necessary and appropriate.
  • Contribute to the broader teaching portfolio across the school, supporting curriculum enrichment, recruitment, and outreach.
  • Develop engaging and authentic practical experiences for students.
  • Contribute to the pastoral care and academic supervision of taught students.
  • Contribute to an excellent learning environment, which is oriented towards achieving high levels of employability for the School of Engineering's graduates.

Research and scholarship are core activities within the School of Engineering. You will be encouraged and supported to sustain and develop their research and scholarship. You will hold an honours degree or postgraduate degree in a relevant engineering discipline.

Informal enquiries may be made to the Subject Head, Dr Russell English

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential. Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
