What you’d be doing:

You will contribute to the development and delivery of innovative modules that reflect current knowledge and enhance student learning. Using creative teaching methods, you will challenge students to engage critically and develop strong analytical skills. You will assess student work through meaningful evaluations, providing constructive feedback to support students’ academic progress that will also strengthen student engagement and learning outcomes. Additionally, you will serve as a Personal Academic Tutor, offering academic and pastoral support, while also supervising postgraduate and research students and ensuring quality standards are maintained.

You’ll need to enjoy:

•Building rapport with students: Foster strong relationships by creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel valued and motivated to succeed.
•Inspiring students: Encourage critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, challenging students to engage deeply with the subject matter and develop as independent learners.

•Working to your values: we care about how people behave as well as what they achieve.

Where you’ll work:

In this role, you’ll be based in the Criminology team, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth. Our current hybrid working policy means you can work from home or on campus, but you will be required to maintain strong campus links and be available on-site at least 3 days per week for in-person teaching and various campus/student meetings and/or student related activities.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact programme leader Dr Samantha Hauptman shauptman@marjon.ac.uk

Supporting our people:

At Marjon, we are firmly committed to supporting every member of staff who works for us. Our Balance programme of health and wellbeing activities aims to help you to look after your physical health, nutritional health, mental health and social health.
We recognise that our recruitment might bring in staff who are new to higher education and are bringing knowledge and expertise from other fields and practice. We want to ensure that all our academic staff are appropriately qualified to teach in HE and have the confidence to do so; to support this, we offer a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) to all new teaching staff without an existing teaching qualification. This provides our new staff with an opportunity to develop their understanding and practice of learning, teaching and pedagogic research/research management in higher education, and enables us to maintain our high standards of teaching.

We’re big believers in the importance of work/life balance. Many of our employees work flexibly and they are able to apply for parental leave and time off for dependants. As well as this, Academic staff enjoy 35 days’ holiday, plus Christmas closure days and eight bank holidays. This equates to 45 (full-time equivalent) days.

We are keen to hear from a diverse range of applicants to support our goal to realise every individual’s potential. We are a ‘Disability Confident Employer’: candidates who declare a disability and who demonstrate on their application that they meet the essential criteria will be included on the shortlist.
