Summary

The Shift Craftsperson is an integral member of the Estates Operational Team, responsible for the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, minor capital works, and emergency responses. The postholder ensures compliance with Trust safety standards and operating procedures while maintaining the smooth functioning of engineering systems and equipment, minimizing service interruptions that impact patient care and hospital operations. Diagnose, repair, and supervise the resolution of complex faults in engineering, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital services. Operate tools, equipment, and test instruments effectively, adhering to Standard Codes of Practice. Apply principles of root cause analysis to maintenance and repair tasks, contributing to a Reliability-Centred Maintenance strategy. Utilize computer-based systems such as the TREND Building Management System (BMS) to diagnose faults, monitor plant, and optimize energy efficiency. Perform tasks across various systems, including: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems Water safety systems and medical gas services Electrical systems, including distribution boards, UPS, IPS, and standby generators Lift systems, pressure systems, and air tube transfer systems Building fabric, fixtures, fittings, and decontamination equipment Plan, prioritize, and coordinate personal workloads and those of lower-grade staff to meet service requirements. Develop risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Provide technical assistance to staff and contractors, ensuring adherence to Trust safety standards during maintenance and new works.
