We are looking to enhance our bereavement and palliative care within our Team by incorporating a dedicated Bereavement and Palliative care (x1 WTE) nursing role. This is a diverse role which would include band 7 ITU clinical role and responsibilities.
Our NICU is the Level 3 unit for the North Central London area which provides specialist intensive care for critically ill babies. We also have close links with an on-site fetal medicine unit which is a regional, national and international referral centre for fetal medicine, caring for more than 7,000 patients each year. In addition, they have an internationally recognised multidisciplinary team (MDT) who offers individualised care for pregnant women and their families, when there is a concern for the health of an unborn baby. We hence can provide a wealth and varied unique range of experience.

There are an extensive range of opportunities for you to further your career for progression, including complex deliveries, exposure to babies requiring ITU care, involvement in governance, quality improvement projects and research, You will have the opportunity to support students and nurses undergoing their qualified in specialty course, and engage with a wide MDT to support families, promote family integrated care, and provide high quality care.
We have a busy tertiary level three neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with close links to the other UCLH specialist hospitals and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Currently we care for 21 intensive / high dependency care babies, 11 special care babies and 12 transitional care cots.
As a Band 7 Neonatal Bereavement and Palliative care nurse facilitate the provision of support to Neonates and their family, families and their unborn baby who require palliative, complex and end of life care.
Provide continuing family support and facilitate family centred care.
Provide an experienced liaison route for all professionals in the MDT, working in collaboration in order to achieve the best care for this group of babies and families. Receive referrals (antenatal) and make direct referrals to doctors, GP’s, HV’s, Community Nursing Teams, children’s hospices and other Allied Health Professionals.
Work in the clinical Neonatal environment for at least 0.4WTE hours of contracted hours working in clinical practice within the nursing rota.
You should ideally possess a recognised teaching qualification and demonstrate the ability for and commitment to continue your ongoing development.
You will maintain high standards of care throughout, communicate with the MDT, check and administer drugs according to guidelines, and support and foster safe practice on the neonatal unit.
