Actual Salary: Equates to: £18,335 - £20,019 per annum (including 20% unsocial allowance) Essential car user also provided.

Role Overview:

Oldham Emergency Duty Team (EDT) is the emergency out of hours service for statutory social care. Working as part of EDT, you will be the point of contact for our residents who require emergency social care intervention out of hours. You will handle calls of an emergency nature and work jointly with the EDT Social Workers and the Manager, to ensure that residents receive an appropriate statutory response. You will require excellent spoken and written communication skills, be competent in ICT, and be able to multitask when working under pressure.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To undertake assessments of individuals and their carers whose needs are not complex and do not require an assessment by a qualified social worker in accordance with the Department’s policies, procedures.
  • To assist social workers undertaking more complex assessments.
  • To identify and take account of community networks which may assist in meeting the needs of individuals and their carers
  • To organise provision of appropriate support services as required: including the commissioning of private and voluntary services under the direction of the social worker; and to keep providers advised and informed of any changes required to care arrangements.In consultation with the social worker / care manager decide when it is appropriate to refer to a Social Worker/ Care Manager for a more detailed assessment or onward referral / service.
  • To ensure that electronic case files are compiled and maintained, and that appropriate accurate and factual information is recorded in accordance with the department’s policy and procedures.


Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

  • NVQ IV in a related subject such as Child Care or Health & Social Care, or equivalent
  • Experience of assessing the needs of vulnerable people and producing written reports and plans
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation in relation to social care The Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, Children Act, Human Rights Act etc.
