About the role.
We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Education Correspondent to join our editorial team on a fixed-term basis to cover
parental leave.
This is a key role in our specialist reporting unit, offering the opportunity to cover one of the most important beats in UK
public life, from early years to further and higher education. You’ll be responsible for delivering compelling, accurate and
insightful coverage that serves our wide range of customers, including breaking news, policy updates, statistical releases and
exclusive stories.
As Education Correspondent, you’ll work closely with contacts across the education sector, generate original content, and ensure
stories are supported with rich multimedia elements including video, stills and graphics.
This role is ideal for a curious, self-starting journalist with strong news judgement and a passion for public interest reporting.
Key responsibilities.
* Deliver fast, fair and accurate coverage of education stories across all phases – from early years and schools to universities
and further education.
* Ensure major education developments are covered comprehensively, with the appropriate multimedia support.
* Generate exclusive stories using data, FOIs and original interviews.
* Build and maintain strong sector contacts and collaborate with other education correspondents in the wider industry.
* Forward-plan upcoming events and ensure internal stakeholders are aligned.
* Use social media to source and amplify content.
What you will need.
* NCTJ qualification (or equivalent) with 100wpm shorthand and a solid understanding of media law.
* Strong reporting and writing skills, with the ability to produce safe but compelling copy under deadline pressure.
* A sharp news sense and ability to spot stories with national interest.
* Experience or interest in the education sector is highly desirable.
* A collaborative approach, with a willingness to work across departments and formats.
