Summary
The Brodey Centre cares for patients with cancer who require a wide range of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) including classic chemotherapy and newer novel agents such as immunotherapies and gene therapy. The unit has 10 day treatment chairs and is a satellite of the Oncology & Haematology Day Treatment Unit (DTU) at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford and serves patients living in the north of the county.
We are looking for a dynamic, experienced and innovative nurse to join our team as a deputy nurse manager to help the team achieve the best care for patients and the safe administration of SACT.

The post-holder will:
• Assist the unit nurse manager provide clinical and managerial leadership for staff and the safe delivery of the SACT service, ensuring systems and processes are up to date
• Be part of our multi-disciplinary team (MDT) ensuring patients attending the Brodey Centre are cared for to the highest possible standard
• Contribute to the development of clinical practice in a positive manner in order to maintain a consistent, motivated day treatment focus.
The applicant should be experienced in the administration of SACT, be able to communicate sensitively & effectively with patients, their carers and all members of the MDT and be an excellent team player. Full induction and training will be provided. The role is supervised and clearly linked to competencies that require completion within a pre-arranged time frame.

Leadership & Management
• To be experienced in the role of day unit coordinator and with strategies for dealing with issues as they arise, with advice and support from senior staff.
• Provide leadership and supervision, managerial direction and support to junior colleagues within the day unit team in the delivery of service, proactively anticipating and planning for trends whilst maintaining the cohesive team structure and effective use of resources.
• Promote effective communication between all members of the health care team to support a cohesive working environment for patients and staff.
Clinical
• To have completed relevant training for the Safe Handling & Administration of SACT.
• Demonstrate technical skills ensuring adherence to trust and local policies (e.g. cannulation, SACT administration, central venous catheter management, and phlebotomy).
• To consistently maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation, through the use of current electronic systems (e.g. EPR, Aria).
• To prioritise own work and that of others to ensure both the patient and unit is managed safely and effectively.
• Act as a clinical role model, demonstrating expert knowledge and skills in the care of patients receiving SACT, responding to changes promptly and appropriately, developing specialised plans of care / follow relevant protocols in collaboration with other senior nurses and the multi-professional team, patients and significant others.
