About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Welder to join our team, specialising in flux-core MIG and TIG welding across both heritage railway restoration projects and modern engineering fabrication. This is a unique opportunity to apply your welding expertise to preserve historic rail vehicles while also working on cutting-edge fabrication projects.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform high-quality flux-core MIG and TIG welding on a variety of metal types and thicknesses
• Restore and fabricate components for heritage railway stock, including boilers, frames, and running gear
• Fabricate and assemble parts for modern engineering projects, working from technical drawings and CAD files
• Conduct inspections and quality control on welds to meet industry and safety standards
• Collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and project managers to deliver work on time and to specification
• Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe working environment
Requirements:
• Proven experience in flux-core MIG and TIG welding (minimum 3 years preferred)
• Competency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and welding symbols
• Experience working in both heritage rail restoration and contemporary fabrication environments is highly desirable
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship
• Relevant welding certifications or qualifications are an advantage
• Understanding of health and safety protocols in workshops
Preferred Experience: (desirable but not essential)
• Background in heritage rail vehicle restoration
• Experience with boiler repairs, chassis/frame work, or bespoke metal fabrication
