Summary

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care for women and their families as an autonomous practitioner. To facilitate the delivery of care to own defined group of women and to others. To assist in implementing individualised midwifery care. To provide midwifery advice to junior staff and to women and their families. To assist in setting, maintaining and improving the standards of midwifery care within the Trust. To provide and maintain high standards of midwifery practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) The code: Standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives (2015). To liaise with and maintain good relationships and communication with midwifery colleagues. To seek advice and support from senior colleagues where appropriate. To liaise with and maintain good relationships with the multidisciplinary team. To inform medical staff of clinical abnormality and to ensure treatment is carried out. To participate in research/evidence based practice. To enhance clinical skills in all aspects of midwifery. To further own professional development and knowledge. To attend mandatory study days. To maintain and develop own personal professional portfolio. To be aware of and participate in Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust clinical risk strategies, including guidelines and incident reporting. To maintain high standards of documentation within Trust guidelines To act up in the absence of the ward manager/department/community team leader. To liaise with the multidisciplinary team, health care groups and outside agencies as appropriate. To ensure adequate supplies of medical/surgical equipment, linen stores and other consumables are in place in the absence of the ward/department manager. To ensure that all equipment is in good working order, to have accessed training and have a knowledge of how to use it correctly. To liaise with the ward/department manager and report any changes/events which may affect patient care/practice in their absence. To participate in quality/audit initiatives and attend clinical governance meetings. To delegate and undertake other duties as appropriate and necessary. To participate in Individual Performance Reviews and to agree objectives with the ward manager. May be required to work within a continuity of carer model providing care across all elements of the maternity pathway.
