We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Trainee Welder/Fabricator. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a career in welding and fabrication within a rapidly growing manufacturing company.
As a Trainee Welder/Fabricator, you will learn to organise, layout, cut, fit/position, clamp, tack, and weld various steel assemblies based on working drawings from the design team, using the MIG/MAG welding process. Over time, you will develop additional skills such as gas cutting and multi-positional welding.
Key Responsibilities
• Measure, prepare, and mark out materials and workpieces using equipment such as straight edges, squares, angle plates, blocks, clamps, and pointers.
• Interpret production/technical drawings to plan and lay out welding projects.
• Read and understand technical drawings, including weld symbols, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Maintain awareness of safe working practices and adhere to safety rules and instructions.
• Organise and clean welding equipment regularly.
• Use equipment to prepare and finish materials, such as horizontal band saws and abrasive wheels/cutters.
• Fit, tack, and weld plates, tubes, box sections in various positions, aiming to achieve coding for different welds.
• Carry out welding according to set dimensions to meet inspection requirements.
• Understand and use measuring tools and gauges, including callipers and rules
• Maintain a clean and organised work area.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
Desirable Qualifications:
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
• Solid numeracy skills and the ability to read mechanical drawings/dimensioning.
• A previous qualification in Mechanical Production/Manufacturing would be beneficial.
Essential Personal Attributes:
• Strong interest in welding and fabrication.
• Previous experience in hands-on practical activities is advantageous.
• Excellent hand-to-eye coordination.
• Ability to handle and manipulate heavy materials.
• Confidence in working safely, with good awareness of risks and hazards.
• Demonstrates strong visual and spatial awareness.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Willingness to listen, learn, and ask questions to improve understanding.
• Good focus, concentration, and multi-tasking skills.
• Innovative with strong problem-solving skills.
