Summary
Acts as an autonomous nursing expert to give advice and guidance to others regarding the management of patients in the clinical areas. Lead and develop nurse led services within symptomatic and Oncoplastic breast services, exercising planning and organisational skills. Collaborate with the MDT in the management of patients with benign and malignant disease and patients at potential risk of developing breast cancer. Undertake family history clinics as part of job plan liaising with the Service and Clinical Director on service developments and updates. Utilise referral networks to internal and external services/agencies. Liaise with genetic service and MDT to co-ordinate the management of the family history clinics. Perform clinical skills: breast palpation, seroma aspiration, fine needle aspiration, tissues expansion, and breast cyst aspiration in accordance with Trust guidelines and protocols. Demonstrate good clinical practice utilising equipment and tools effectively and with expertise. Possess clinical knowledge of benign, malignant and generic conditions, advising patients and MDT. Delivers evidenced based treatment plans supported by current research, working to agreed policy and procedure to implement care. Act as health educator and health promoter to patients in relation to general and specific breast health. Utilises professional knowledge to assess, plan, evaluate and implement care interventions for patients. Ensures information is conveyed to the patient and family in a timely and understandable manner and offers reassurance as required, including the validation and verification of findings to patients. Is an effective communicator, establishing excellent relationships with patients and staff. Exercises judgement and accountability when dealing with complex patient problems and decide on appropriate course of action, escalating to the Consultant Breast Surgeon when necessary. Plan and organise workload within the service demands and clinical commitments, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability. Develop and maintain effective partnerships with internal and external services and agencies, promoting knowledge, providing and sharing information to improve patient outcomes. Provide independent Nurse Prescribing, after successful completion of Non-Medical Prescribing Course, within the speciality of Breast Care and in association with clinical skills/roles, in accordance with NMC guidelines and Trust Policies.
