Summary

The post holder will provide leadership, focus and resource for, providing a high standard of complex care and support to the child/young person with cancer/leukaemia and their families, including clinical expertise in palliative care. The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care provided by the community nursing team. The post holder will provide specialist education and training to staff working in Primary care, education Services, Social services and the voluntary sector caring for these children. The post holder actively participates in multi-professional meetings, acting as patient advocate and representing nursing views. The post holder will take overall responsibility for providing safe and effective complex care to all children within a defined paediatric oncology/haematology caseload in the Nottinghamshire and South Derbyshire area of the East Midlands. The post holder will manage the band 6 paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse Specialist and outreach Play Specialist posts and participate in the supervision, teaching, mentorship and appraisal of pre and post registration staff. The post holder will work autonomously in both the hospital and community setting. .
